“Who leaves the pine-tree, leaves his friend, unnerves his strength, invites his end.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Our reclaimed French oak stock ranges from seventeenth century pit sawn boards to more recent machine sawn boards, all of which produce a rich lustrous finish. Our band sawn planks are usually between 100 and 70 years old with a depth from between 20-40mm and up to an impressive 4m long.
Pit Sawn planks refer to the old fashioned methods of cutting trees by two men and a double handled saw. The tree trunk would have been placed above a pit, with one man sawing from within the pit and one man from the top of the pit, the result is a board that is seemingly carved out from the tree. Pit sawn boards are considered a more specialized product because of their unique story.
